Niger Delta Power Holding Company In Figures

Power generation capacity upon completion of NIPP Phase I: 5 GW

Number of power generation plants: 10

Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) is a private limited company with government stakeholders incorporated under the Companies and Allied Matters Act. Its mandate is to fulfill the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), a project working to electrify Nigeria. NIPP was established as a government priority in 2004. Since then, NDPHC’s portfolio has included around 10 power plants and numerous other projects. The company’s mandate further stipulates that it provide solar home systems to off-grid communities. The company is Nigeria’s largest power generation company, producing 35% of the country’s power.

NDPHC’s portfolio is broken into four areas:

  • Generation projects: 10 flagship power plants across southern Nigeria
  • Transmission projects: Power evacuation and grid expansion and enhancement projects including five transmission substations and lines
  • Distribution projects: Distribution projects including substations, transformers and 33-kV and 11-kV lines
  • Gas assets: Four petrol stations

Phase I focused on the south of Nigeria, while Phase II will focus on the north. In contrast to Phase I, Phase II will primarily consist of hydro power generation projects. Phase II of NIPP is being funded largely through revenue of existing NIPP power generation assets.
