QatarEnergy, Shell sign 20-year naphtha supply deal

DOHA, October 9, 2024 – QatarEnergy will supply naphtha to Shell for 20 years under a new contract, the Qatari company announced on Wednesday.

The deal was signed with Singapore-based Shell International Eastern Trading Company for up to 18 million tonnes of naphtha to be delivered starting in April 2025.

The agreement represents the largest and longest-spanning naphtha deal in QatarEnergy’s history.

QatarEnergy and Shell have a long-standing strategic partnership through several shared investments in the energy industry in Qatar and globally, including the QatarEnergy LNG projects and the Pearl GTL plant, among others.

Wednesday’s deal was hailed as the latest step in a strong strategic partnership by Shell CEO Wael Sawan and Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy H.E. Saad Sherida Al Kaabi.

Global naphtha demand is seeing continuous growth, according to Mordor Energy, which cites increasing activity in end-user industries, such as petrochemicals, fertilisers, paints and coatings.
