National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited

National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) is a state-owned enterprise that purchases, aggregates, transports and distributes natural gas in Trinidad and Tobago. The company heads up an integrated group of more than 30 subsidiaries that operate along the domestic natural gas chain and are also present in petrochemicals and renewables.

Main subsidiaries include:

  • National Energy Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago, which develops infrastructure to support the energy industry
  • Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited, a natural gas processing and NGL marketing company
  • NGC Green Company Limited, an investment company focused on low-carbon fuels, energy efficiency and sustainable transportation
  • Trinidad and Tobago NGL Limited, an investment vehicle to enable public participation in Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited
  • La Brea Industrial Development Company Limited, which manages industrial and port infrastructure at the La Brea Industrial Estate and develops industrial sites for lease

NGC is the sole purchaser and seller of natural gas in the domestic market. Through Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited, it owns and operates three natural gas processing facilities with a capacity of up to 55.2 mcm (1.95 bcf) per day and a booster compressor station with a capacity of 1.2 mcm (42 mcf) per day for the receipt of associated gas.

Through other subsidiaries and joint ventures, NGC has activities in oil production, trading of methanol and other energy commodities, engineering and construction services, procurement services and various services in the renewable energy and energy efficiency spaces.

The company owns and operates most of Trinidad and Tobago’s gas pipeline network, which spans more than 1,000 kilometres onshore and offshore. With a capacity of 124.6 mcm (4.4 bcf) per day, it supplies companies in the power, petrochemicals, light manufacturing and industrial sectors.

NGC and its subsidiaries strive to mitigate their methane and carbon dioxide emissions through carbon capture and sequestration, investments in renewable energy research and projects, and the promotion of alternative fuels, energy efficiency and sustainable development.

The company uses satellite technology to monitor and prevent methane emissions from its operations and it contributes to the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP 2.0) and the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).
