Oman extends Block 53 concession with Oxy Oman until 2050

MUSCAT, May 19, 2025 – Oxy Oman and its partners have signed an agreement with Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals to extend the exploration and production sharing agreement for Block 53 in Mukhaizna until 2050 during a signing ceremony on Sunday.

The agreement, signed under the patronage of minister of energy and minerals H. E. Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi, includes continued investment of approximately USD 30 billion over the concession period. Oxy Oman’s partners in the Mukhaizna oilfield include OQ Exploration and Production, Indian Oil Corporation, Liwa and PTT Exploration and Production.

The Mukhaizna field currently records the highest daily crude oil output among the sultanate’s fields and is considered a model of effective collaboration among operators.

“This strategic step is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure the continued operation of the Mukhaizna field and enhance oil production through the application of advanced steam injection technology and the development of the Thulaylat reservoir,” the Ministry of Energy and Minerals said in a press statement.

The agreement reflects Oman’s continued commitment to the sustainability of its oil and gas sector through the use of best practices and modern technologies.
