QatarEnergy awards EPC for 4.1-million-tpy CCS project

DOHA, November 3, 2025 – QatarEnergy has awarded South Korea’s Samsung C&T Corporation the EPC contract for a CCS project at its existing LNG production facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City, QatarEnergy announced on Sunday.

The facility is designed to capture and store 4.1 million tonnes per year (tpy) of carbon dioxide and is part of Qatar’s push to expand CCS capacity as it ramps up LNG production. The state-owned company aims to deploy CCS capabilities at all its upcoming LNG production expansion projects and targets capturing 11 million tpy by 2035.

“This milestone project builds upon our growing CCS capabilities, which reinforce our position as a reliable provider of affordable lower-carbon energy,” said QatarEnergy president and CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi.

QatarEnergy began its first CCS project in 2019 with a 2.2-million-tpy facility, and currently has two CCS projects under way for its North Field East and North Field South LNG expansions, capturing 2.1 million and 1.2 million tpy of carbon dioxide, respectively.

Samsung C&T Corporation is a global EPC contractor engaged in construction, trading and engineering services across energy and infrastructure sectors. It has undertaken projects in power generation, LNG and renewables across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
