Nama PWP inks PPA for Dhofar II wind farm in Oman

MUSCAT, November 13, 2025 – Oman’s Nama Power and Water Procurement Company (Nama PWP) has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Sembcorp Utilities and OQ Alternative Energy (OQAE) to develop the 125-MW Dhofar II Wind Power Project, Nama PWP announced on Wednesday.

Dhofar II will comprise 20 6.26-MW Windey WD200 turbines connected to the national grid via a 400 kV substation. It is expected to free up an estimated 76 mcm (2.68 bcf) of natural gas per year for a carbon dioxide emissions abatement of around 158,000 tonnes per year.

The total investment in the project will amount to approximately USD 112 million. The plant will be built, owned and operated by a joint venture to be established between Sembcorp and OQAE, and is scheduled to begin commercial operations in Q3 2027.

“This project is a significant addition to Oman’s renewable energy transition. Over the past 15 years, Nama PWP has contracted 26 electricity and water desalination plants, attracting investments exceeding USD 11 billion, with plans to attract a further USD 5 billion over the next five years, mainly in renewable energy and storage technologies,” said Abdullah bin Rashid Al Sawafi, chief energy transition officer at Nama PWP.

Nama PWP is the central procurement body for electricity and desalinated water projects in Oman. The company currently holds contracts with 15 power plants and 11 desalination facilities.

Sembcorp Industries is a Singapore-based energy and urban solutions provider with renewable energy assets in Asia and the Middle East. In Oman, it operates a portfolio of more than 1.1 GW that includes solar and gas-fired power facilities.

OQAE is OQ’s clean energy subsidiary. Its portfolio includes large-scale solar and wind projects, green hydrogen and ammonia ventures, energy efficiency and industrial decarbonisation assets.
