TEL AVIV, January 16, 2026 – Chevron has taken an FID to expand the Leviathan gas platform offshore Israel to boost regional supply to Israel, Egypt and Jordan, the company said on Thursday.

The project will add three new offshore wells, subsea infrastructure and upgrades to the Leviathan platform to increase gas deliveries to around 21 bcm (742 bcf) annually. The expansion is expected to begin operations toward the end of the decade.

“This milestone demonstrates our ongoing commitment to partner with the State of Israel to develop natural gas resources and provide essential energy to millions of people in Israel, Egypt and Jordan,” Chevron’s Eastern Mediterranean managing director Jack Baker said.

Chevron Mediterranean operates the Leviathan platform with a 39.66% stake, alongside NewMed Energy (45.34%) and Ratio Energies (15%).

Chevron’s regional assets also include the Tamar gasfield offshore Israel, the Aphrodite gasfield offshore Cyprus and exploration blocks in Egypt.

The Leviathan play was discovered in 2010 and beginning commercial production at the end of 2019. It lies in the Levantine Basin about 130 kilometres west of Haifa and ranks among the largest gas fields in the region, with hundreds of billions of cubic metres of gas in reserve. Gas from Leviathan is piped to shore for domestic use and exported to neighbouring countries, making it a cornerstone of Israel’s energy supply and regional exports.
