QatarEnergy, ExxonMobil achieve first LNG at US facility
SABINE PASS, March 31, 2026 – Golden Pass LNG, jointly owned by QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil in the US, has achieved LNG production from the first of its three planned liquefaction trains, the companies announced on Monday.
First LNG exports from the facility are expected to begin in Q2 2026.
The project is QatarEnergy’s largest investment in the US. It is located in Sabine Pass, Texas, and will comprise three trains with an aggregate liquefaction capacity of 18.1 million tonnes per year (tpy) upon completion, in addition to five storage tanks of 155,000 cubic metres each and two tanker berths.
“The operational phase and market entry of Golden Pass LNG will come at an important time when global energy security ranks very high on energy agendas worldwide. We look forward to the safe and successful start of export operations,” said Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and president and CEO of QatarEnergy.
QatarEnergy holds a 70% interest in Golden Pass LNG, with ExxonMobil holding the remaining 30%. The companies reached a positive FID on the project in February 2019, anticipating investment of more than USD 10 billion towards development.
“Golden Pass LNG is part of a wider QatarEnergy strategy for international investments that we have been planning over the past decade. It also represents a significant part of the plans announced by QatarEnergy in 2018 to invest USD 20 billion dollars in the US energy sector,” added Al Kaabi.
QatarEnergy and ExxonMobil are also partners in Qatar’s North Field East LNG project, which comprises four trains for an aggregate liquefaction capacity of 32 million tpy.
