The Pemba Bulk Terminal (PBT), currently under development by construction and engineering services company Renco, is an industrial port and future logistics and operational base in Pemba, Cabo Delgado. The PBT is strategically positioned to serve Mozambique’s growing pool of companies providing logistics services to Mozambique’s industrial sector, fostering efficient supply chains and expediting resource development in the region.

Situated on Mozambique’s northeastern coast in the hydrocarbon-rich Rovuma Basin, PBT is strategically positioned to serve energy companies with offshore LNG projects under way and other extraction ventures under development.
The terminal will provide space and equipment for the storage and transportation of materials and machinery needed for gas extraction and liquefaction, fostering the emergence of supply chains and serving as a catalyst for economic diversification and growth.

SPECIFICATIONS: A 300-metre mooring quay integrated with a 120-metre floating pontoon will be complemented by an additional 300-metre quay at a second stage, both with 12-metre draft to accommodate large vessels. The terminal will also feature 98 hectares for cargo handling infrastructure and equipment, while 90 hectares are available for the development of onshore industrial activities. This industrial district is envisaged to follow flexible, modular growth to meet the typology and volume of demand. For connectivity, PBT is linked to the EN1 highway via a private, congestion-free paved road.

KEY PLAYERS: PBT is majority-owned by Italy’s Renco Group through the Mozambican company CD Properties. Portos de Cabo Delgado, a 50-50 joint venture between ENH and CFM, holds a 20% stake in the venture.

INVESTMENT: Renco Group will invest up to EUR 200 million. The government, as concession holder, will allocate up to USD 1 billion towards constructing infrastructure for the terminal.

SIGNIFICANCE: No ports currently exist along the East African coast with similar access, infrastructure or planned logistical capabilities.
Renco is collaborating with provincial authorities to insert local SMEs into the company’s supply chain. As PBT develops, its area of influence will be exposed to an influx of commercial activity expected to benefit, in particular, the construction, transport and hospitality sectors.
