Assala Gabon is a subsidiary of Assala Energy and one of Gabon’s largest oil producers. With its six onshore licences, Assala produces around 45,000 bopd. Four of its six production licences were renewed in 2019 for 25 years, and the company also holds three exploration licences for new development opportunities. A former asset of the Carlyle Group, Assala Energy was sold to Gabon Oil Company (GOC) in 2024 and represents GOC’s first major oil project.

Assala Gabon’s business model is to invest in mid-life and mature assets and increase production levels and field life cycles by improving operational efficiency.

Assala also operates a 1,600-kilometre onshore pipeline network that transports crude oil from various production fields and supports the export of about one third of Gabon’s total crude oil production. The network is linked to the Gamba export terminal in southwestern Gabon, also operated by the company, which is the primary export point for the country’s crude oil.

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement, the company has strategies in place to reduce emissions, preserve biodiversity and invest in local community development. Since 2020, Assala has reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by approximately 20%, primarily by detecting and preventing methane leak, reducing flaring, re-injecting gas and shutting wells with excessive gas production.
