Capital managed by Acon Investments:More than USD 4.2 billion

Citla Energy

Citla Energy is a Mexican E&P company partnered with private equity firm Acon Investments, which has managed more than USD 4.2 billion of capital and invests in upstream and midstream oil and gas assets, as well as in power infrastructure.

Citla Energy has offices in Mexico City and Houston. The company focuses its activities in the Mexican oil and gas sector and participates in the following blocks:

  • 25% in Block 7, together with Eni (45%, operator) and Cairn Energy (30%)
  • 35% in Block 9, together with Cairn Energy (65%, operator)
  • 40% in Block 14, together with Eni (60%, operator)
  • 50% in Block 15, together with Cairn Energy (50%)

Blocks 7, 9 and 14 are located in mid-deep waters approximately 50 kilometres offshore in the Sureste Basin, while Block 15 is located in the Tampico Misantla Basin.

The company’s strategy is structured on four main pillars:

  • Independent oil and gas production: As an independent company, enter into strategic partnerships to build a well-capitalised E&P platform with strong local infrastructure and capabilities.
  • Balanced and comprehensive portfolio: Develop a portfolio of operated and non-operated onshore and offshore assets in Mexico, following an opportunistic approach for investment and diversification.
  • Oil and gas technical capabilities: Develop operating expertise by forming consortiums with experienced companies with access to technology suitable to exploit specific asset types.
  • Local knowledge and operating experience: Build local management teams with local experience to pursue investment opportunities in a structured manner and execute projects efficiently.

In March 2023, Citla, Eni and Capricorn announced a new discovery in the Yatzil exploration prospect in Block 7, located in the mid-deep waters of the Sureste Basin, approximately 65 kilometres off the Mexican coast. The well encountered more than 40 metres of net pay sands with good quality oil.
