Gabon Power Company

Gabon Power Company (GPC) was established in 2015 through the Gabonese Strategic Investment Fund and is responsible for researching, designing, constructing and operating electricity generation and water treatment infrastructure. The company develops and co-finances projects in partnership with domestic and international stakeholders.

GPC has a total of 132 MW of hydropower, 61 MW of solar and 120 MW of thermal power capacity in operation or under development.

• Kinguélé Aval Hydroelectric Power Station: A 35-MW run-of-river hydroelectric project developed in partnership with Meridiam and GPC. The plant is designed to supply approximately 205 GWh per year, the equivalent of about 13% of Libreville’s energy demand, with estimated emissions savings of more than 150,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
• Ngoulmendjim Hydroelectric Power Station: An 82-MW hydroelectric project scheduled for commissioning in 2028. Developed in collaboration with French company Eranove, it will have an annual production of 550 GWh.
• Dibwangui Hydroelectric Power Station: A 15-MW facility developed by GPC and Eranove to supply Ngounié Province. Operational since 2019, it generates approximately 90 GWh.
  Ayémé Solar Power Station: An 11-MW solar plant operational since November 2024. Developed together with Solen SA Gabon, a subsidiary of Solen Renewable Dubai, it is Gabon’s first utility-scale solar plant.
• Oyem Solar Power Station: A 50-MW solar power project developed with AMEA Power to supply the Woleu-Ntem and Ogooué-Ivindo provinces.
  IPP Owendo Thermal Power Plant: A 120-MW gas-powered plant under development in partnership with Wärtsilä to supply electricity to industrial customers in Owendo, a main industrial centre and the location of Gabon’s largest port.
• Ntoum 7 Water Treatment Plant: A facility under development with a capacity to treat 130,000 cubic meters of water per day. Developed in partnership with the government of Gabon and Eranove, it will provide clean water to approximately 600,000 people upon completion.

GPC’s projects are primarily carried out under build-own-operate-transfer schemes and have received funding from major international institutions including the IFC, the African Development Bank, the Development Bank of Southern Africa and the Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund.
