Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC, or Ghana Gas), is the state-owned midstream gas operator in Ghana, established in 2011 to manage the country’s natural gas infrastructure and operations. It began commercial production in 2014 and serves as the national aggregator, co-ordinating the processing, transport and marketing of gas from offshore fields to domestic end-users.

GNGC owns and operates key infrastructure, including:

  • Offshore and onshore pipeline networks connecting production fields to inland markets
  • A gas processing plant at Atuabo that delivers lean gas for power generation and industrial use
  • LPG recovery and storage facilities supporting domestic energy supply

Its role is central to monetising Ghana’s natural gas resources, linking upstream producers with utilities and industrial consumers while reducing flaring and import dependence.

Strategically, the company supports Ghana’s broader energy transition and industrialisation objectives by replacing more polluting fuels with natural gas and enhancing energy security. It prioritises commercial viability through gas marketing and demand forecasting, while also investing in local content, technical capacity and research to drive long-term growth.

As a national asset in Ghana’s energy value chain, GNGC is critical to unlocking the country’s hydrocarbons potential and providing a stable fuel source for its power and manufacturing sectors.
