Kenesjay Green Limited (KGL) is a sustainable energy consulting firm based in Trinidad and Tobago that provides research and advisory services for the decarbonisation of greenfield and brownfield energy developments throughout the energy value chain.

A subsidiary of Kenesjay Systems Limited, the company employs a team of energy experts and business developers who work with investors and regional and international bodies to help propel sustainable energy developments through the incorporation of new and evolving technologies.

Towards decarbonising Trinidad and Tobago’s petrochemical industry, the company is spearheading projects in:

• Electricity generation from renewable sources
• Green hydrogen production
• Green ammonia production

The company’s NewGen Energy project is a USD 300-million venture that aims to produce decarbonised hydrogen via electrolysis utilising low-carbon power sources from a purpose-built solar power plant and energy-efficient power produced from waste heat. The hydrogen will be used as feedstock by an existing industrial facility, partially replacing hydrogen currently produced from natural gas.

KGL is the project developer (30%) with partner Hydrogène de France (70%). Once complete, NewGen Energy will be powered by 30 MW of solar and 100 MW from combined-cycle gas turbines. It will have the capacity to produce hydrogen at a rate of 2.2 tonnes per hour.

In 2021, KGL established the Trinidad and Tobago Hydrogen Research Collaborative (H2RC), a public advocacy, applied research and education collective that aims to help Trinidad and Tobago develop a green hydrogen economy. The University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of the West Indies were the collective’s first partners, and KGL is in the process of securing additional support from public- and private-sector entities.

The company has also worked with Dominica to assess the potential of the island’s geothermal resources to develop green hydrogen and green electricity for domestic consumption and export.
