Kuwait Oil Company

Great expectations

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) undertakes exploration, drilling and production of oil and gas in Kuwait, operating under the umbrella of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. As Kuwait pursues its strategy of ramping up production capacity to 3.65 million bopd by 2035 and non-associated gas capacity of 26.9 mcm (950 mcf) by 2027, KOC is focusing its long-term strategy on three areas: developing existing and newly discovered resources, optimising costs and integrating sustainability practices into production operations.

  • Operating zones: The company operates in three distinct areas that, along with the Partitioned Zone, define Kuwait’s upstream activity: North Kuwait, West Kuwait, and South and East Kuwait.
  • Offshore horizons: KOC is developing discoveries at Al Nokhatha and Al Julaia with plans to drill up to 15 exploratory wells in two campaigns.
  • Heavy oil: KOC’s efforts to develop viscous oil are concentrated at the South Ratqa field, which holds 15 billion barrels in reserves.
  • Jurassic gas: Another key focal area for the company is the exploitation of light oil and non-associated gas from Jurassic reservoirs located in North Kuwait. It expects to commission two new Jurassic production facilities by 2022 to expand these operations.
