ABU DHABI, July 11, 2024 – ADNOC has deployed RoboWell, AIQ’s world-first AI-based autonomous well-control solution, at a field offshore Abu Dhabi, the NOC said on Thursday.

The technology was deployed at the NASR offshore field, already a fully digitalised operation.

RoboWell uses cloud-based AI algorithms to autonomously operate wells that self-adjust according to changing conditions.

This enhances the safe operation of the well, improves efficiency, reduces the need for travel and physical interventions, and thereby minimises emissions, ADNOC said. It has been proven to deliver an optimisation in gas lift consumption of up to 30% and an increase in operating efficiency of up to 5%, according to AIQ CEO Chris Cooper.

AIQ was created in 2020 in line with the UAE’s ambition to become a leading global hub in the area of AI. In May, Presight AI acquired a 51% stake in the company, with ADNOC retaining 49%.

“ADNOC’s aim is to become the world’s most AI-enabled energy company, integrating AI from the control room to the board room to maximise efficiency and move towards autonomous operations,” ADNOC upstream executive director Abdulmunim Saif Al Kindy said.
