Algeria solar tender launched for 1 GW
Algeria ALGIERS, December 24, 2021 – The Algerian government has launched a tender for the development of 1 GW in solar projects, with participants bidding for lots totalling up to 300 MW each.
Winners in the tender, launched on Wednesday by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Renewable Energy and the Algerian Renewable Energy Company (SHAEMS), will secure a 25-year power purchase agreement.
SHAEMS is owned by state gas company Sonatrach alongside power utility Sonelgaz and was created earlier this year to implement the national programme for the development of renewable energy.
The tender is expected to be the first in a series of 1-GW tenders, with another three expected between 2022 and 2024, according to pv magazine.
Algeria is targeting a 27% share for electricity generated from renewable sources by 2030.
