Bakken Energy to create US blue hydrogen hub
USA BISMARCK, August 19, 2021 – Clean energy infrastructure developer Bakken Energy has reached an agreement to purchase and transform a synthetic fuel plant into the US’ largest low-cost blue hydrogen production facility, the company announced on Monday.
Bakken will purchase the Great Plains Synfuels Plant in Beulah, North Dakota, owned by Basin Electric Power Cooperative. The deal is expected to be completed in April 2023.
The facility will serve as the base for a USD 2-billion hydrogen hub that will produce an estimated 310,000 tonnes per year. It is expected to begin producing hydrogen in 2026.
In June 2021, Bakken signed an agreement with Mitsubishi Power Americas to partner on the project.
