BP evacuates North Sea platform

STAVANGER, December 31, 2015 – BP partially evacuated its Valhall platform in Norway’s North Sea on Thursday after a storm caused a barge to break its anchor.

The barge was drifting toward the oilfield installation in the sea. The platform was evacuated by helicopter. Production continued at the oilfield according to a company spokesman.

Co-owned by American company Hess Corporation, the giant Valhall field is operated by BP. The company produced 38,900 barrels of oil and 1 mcm (35.3 mcf) of gas per day at the field in 2015.
