BP reaches first gas at Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project

DAKAR, January 2, 2025 – BP has achieved its first flows of gas at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project off Senegal and Mauritania, the company announced on Thursday.

The project’s first phase, once fully commissioned, is slated to deliver 2.3 million tonnes per year of LNG.

 

The company celebrated the achievement at what it termed “one of the deepest, most complex gas developments in Africa,” situated in water depths of up to 2,850 metres.

In June of last year, the GTA FPSO vessel arrived at its destination on the maritime border between Mauritania and Senegal, roughly 40 kilometres offshore.

After processing in that vessel, gas will be piped to an FLNG vessel around 10 kilometres offshore for liquefaction then transferred to LNG carriers for export.
