Cadeler debuts next-gen wind turbine installation vessel
COPENHAGEN, August 19, 2024 – Danish offshore wind installation company Cadeler has taken delivery of its first P-class jack-up wind turbine installation vessel from COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry shipyard, Cadeler announced on Friday.
Named Wind Peak, the vessel has been designed to handle the largest wind turbines currently being deployed globally. With a payload capacity of over 17,600 tonnes and a main crane capable of lifting more than 2,500 tonnes at 53 metres, it is capable of transporting and installing seven complete 15-MW turbine sets or five sets of 20-MW turbines per load.
“Our customers are constantly pushing the boundaries in terms of size and complexity of the wind turbines being installed offshore. Our success is a measure of our ability to cater to these changing needs both now and in the future,” said Mikkel Gleerup, CEO of Cadeler.
The vessel is the first of seven newbuilds for which Cadeler has signed contracts. A sister vessel, Wind Pace, is currently under construction at the COSCO shipyard and is scheduled for delivery in Q2 2025. Both ships will be registered in Denmark.
Listed in Oslo and New York, Cadeler is a pure-play offshore wind installation company that owns and operates the industry’s largest fleet of jack-up installation vessels.
