Dana Gas confirms major gas discovery in Egypt’s Nile Delta

CAIRO, December 15, 2025 – The UAE’s Dana Gas has made a significant gas discovery at its North El-Basant 1 well in Egypt’s onshore Nile Delta with reserves estimated at 424-708 mcm (15-25 bcf), the company said on Thursday.

The well is the fourth under the company’s USD 100-million programme to boost domestic gas recovery and long-term production. The initiative has already delivered 283 cubic metres (10 mcf) per day from three previous wells and aims to add 2.27 bcm (80 bcf) in recoverable reserves. In addition, three recompleted wells are contributing 255,000 cubic metres (9 mcf) per day outside the investment programme.

The fifth well, Daffodil, is scheduled to be spudded in January 2026.

“The latest drilling success reinforces the value of our investment programme in Egypt and highlights the significant remaining potential within the Nile Delta,” Dana Gas CEO Richard Hall said. “By increasing local gas production, the programme will help reduce Egypt’s reliance on imported LNG and fuel oil and is expected to generate more than one billion dollars in savings for the national economy over time.”
