False alarm at Pemex refinery
CIUDAD MADERO, January 4, 2018 – Security teams were called to Pemex’s Madero refinery on Wednesday morning to investigate a bomb threat that was phoned into emergency services by an unidentified person.
“A review is concluded and a bomb threat contingency at the Madero refinery in [the state of] Tamaulipas is lifted. After carrying out the established security protocols, it is confirmed that it was a false alarm,” the NOC said on its Twitter account.
The scare spurred a three-hour inspection of the facility by federal and state personnel.
The 190,000-bpd Madero refinery is undergoing a MXN 3-billion (USD 156-million) modernisation programme. As such, the facility is not currently processing hydrocarbons, Pemex spokesperson Omar García Vázquez told reporters.
