Flame dies out: Total finishes up flare-out of Nigeria’s offshore Ofon field
LAGOS, January 9, 2015 – Total has concluded the flare-out of Ofon field on oil mining licence 102 in phase two of the Ofon project, media reported on Thursday. The previously flared gas from the field is now being compressed, transported to shore and distributed through Nigeria LNG.
Not only is this move in line with the law in Nigeria but it also hits the company’s targets regarding local content and environmental goals, not to mention making good on its pledge to the Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership promoted by the World Bank. The flare-out exhibits a 10 percent drop in the conglomerate’s exploration and production flaring.
Ofon field is located 65 kilometres offshore in 40 metres of water with a daily production of 25,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. Total E&P Nigeria operates Ofon field with a 40-percent interest alongside the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
