PORT OF SPAIN, August 12, 2024 – McDermott has won a contract for EPCI services for the Shell-led Manatee gasfield off Trinidad and Tobago, the US company said on Monday.

McDermott will design, procure, fabricate, hook up and commission a platform and jacket for the project, which saw a landmark final investment decision from Shell last month. The company will also provide design, installation, and commissioning services for a 32-inch gas pipeline that will connect the platform to a gas processing facility operated by Shell.

The award follows McDermott’s successful delivery of the front-end engineering design, detailed engineering and long lead procurement service contracts for the project’s initial design and execution planning.

The Manatee field is part of the 283-bcm (10-tcf) Loran-Manatee discovery, which straddles the maritime border of Trinidad and Venezuela. The Trinidadian side holds 76.5 bcm (2.7 tcf) while the Venezuelan side holds 206.8 bcm (7.3 tcf).

Shell subsidiary Shell Trinidad and Tobago will develop the field, located in the prolific East Coast Marine Area (ECMA). The ECMA licence holds Shell’s largest gas-producing fields in the country, including Dolphin, Starfish, Bounty and Endeavour.

July’s FID on the gasfield promises a boost for the country’s LNG production. The new gas supply will be directed in part to the Atlantic LNG facility, where a fourth train has been idle for several years due to dwindling gas supplies.

“This award leverages our unique, integrated EPCI capabilities and legacy of engineering excellence and innovation to successfully deliver large offshore platforms and complex subsea infrastructure worldwide,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott’s senior vice-president for subsea and floating facilities.
