Moldova launches first tender for wind and solar
Moldova CHISINAU, August 16, 2024 – In a move to reduce reliance on energy imports from Russia, Moldova has launched its inaugural tender for wind and solar power generation, Reuters reported on Friday.
The tender envisions the installation of 105 MW of solar PV plants alongside 60 MW of wind energy. Awardees will secure a 15-year fixed price guarantee, the report said.
The new constructions would bring the contribution of renewables to the country’s energy mix to 16.6%.
“Opening up for investors to develop renewables is yet another critical step towards ensuring greater energy security for Moldova,” the report cited Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov as saying.
The minister named a number of steps his country is taking to reduce reliance on Russian energy supplies, including upgrading gas infrastructure to receive imports from diverse sources.
The country is also pursuing further integration with the EU and is seeing membership by 2030.
