Novatek starts up Arctic LNG project
MOSCOW, December 5, 2017 – The first train of the USD 27-billion Yamal LNG project in Russia’s region of the Arctic has come on line, operator Novatek announced on Tuesday.
“This event marks a milestone accomplishment for the Yamal LNG project,” said Leonid Mikhelson, the chairman of the management board of the company, in a statement. “The commencement of LNG production begins a new chapter in our corporate history.”
The three-train facility will have a capacity of 16.5 million tpy when complete. Novatek holds a 50.1% stake in the project, along with partners Total (20%), CNPC (20%) and the Silk Road Fund (9.9%).
