OMV strikes new gas in Pakistan’s Sindh

KABUL, October 13, 2015 – OMV has discovered gas at an exploration well in Pakistan’s Sindh province.

The Austrian company reported on Tuesday that gas was flowing at its Latif South-1 well at a rate of 2,500 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

The well is located 25 kilometres south of the Latif gasfield. The exploration licence is held by OMV Exploration & Production’s Pakistan subsidiary (33.4%), Pakistan Petroleum (33.3%) and Eni Pakistan (33.3%).

Pakistan suffers from a severe lack of electricity, a situation the government has pledged to address in part through more oil and gas exploration.

OMV has operated in Sindh since 1991. The company is responsible for around 10 percent of Pakistan’s gas supply.
