Pemex restarts propylene production
SALINA CRUZ, December 6, 2017 – Mexican NOC Pemex has again begun turning out propylene at its refinery in Salina Cruz, international media reported Tuesday.
Various functions of the 330,000-bpd refinery, including propylene production units, had been shut down since a June fire at the facility, and a large earthquake centred in Oaxaca in September.
Company sources told Platts that two fluid catalytic cracking units are producing the compound ahead of the initially expected early-2018 restart date.
Pemex has not yet commented on the start-up of the units.
The refinery is operated by the NOC’s downstream arm, Pemex Transformación Industrial.
