Production starts at Erha North Phase II
PORT HARCOURT, September 25, 2015 – The offshore Erha North Phase 2 in Nigeria has started production ahead of schedule and $400 million under budget, operator ExxonMobil has announced via press release. The massive field will add 65,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) to Nigeria’s output of 2 million bopd.
The seven-well project, jointly operated by upstream companies Shell (43.75 percent) and ExxonMobil (56.25 percent), is estimated to produce about 165 million barrels over its 50-year lifetime. It is located about 97 kilometeres off the coast and operates in a water depth of 1,006 metres.
The Erha North Phase II project brought about $2 billion of infrastructure and project investments into the country.
“These contracts are bringing direct and indirect benefits to the Nigerian economy through project spending and employment, consistent with project objectives,” ExxonMobil Development Company president Neil Duffin said in the press release.
