PARAMARIBO, July 18, 2024 – QatarEnergy will acquire a 20% interest in a Chevron-operated block offshore Suriname, the Qatari company said on Thursday.

The company will take the working interest in the Block 5 production-sharing contract, where Chevron will retain a 40% interest and Staatsolie affiliate Paradise Oil Company will hold the remaining 40%.

Block 5 is located in shallow-water depths of about 30-45 metres. The licence is currently proceeding to its second exploration phase with a commitment to drill one exploration well, according to QatarEnergy.

“This agreement highlights our continued commitment to exploring the promising basins of Suriname and marks an exciting new partnership with Chevron in the international upstream sector,” Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs H.E. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said.

QatarEnergy already holds a 30% interest in Suriname’s Block 64, as well as 40% in Block 65 and 20% in blocks 6 and 8.
