Saipem wins $4-billion Qatar EPC contract

DOHA, September 16, 2024 – Saipem has secured a USD 4-billion contract from QatarEnergy LNG for EPC works on the North Field project, the Italian company announced on Sunday.

Works will take place as part of QatarEnergy’s North Field Production Sustainability Offshore Compression Program, aimed at sustaining the production of the offshore gas reservoir.

Saipem’s scope of work covers the engineering, procurement, fabrication and installation of six platforms as well as around 100 kilometres of corrosion resistance alloy rigid subsea pipelines of 28-inch and 24-inch diameter, 100 kilometres of subsea composite cables, 150 kilometres of fiber optic cables and several other subsea facilities.

The contract covers the Combined COMP3A and COMP3B project, which includes the second and third phases of the Offshore Compression Complexes Project. Saipem also won the EPC package for the project’s first phase, which it is currently executing.

In February, QatarEnergy announced plans to expand production in its North Field, the world’s largest known gas reservoir, and increase the country’s LNG production capacity by at least 16 million tpy. The move is in addition to a 49-million-tpy expansion project already underway, and would bring North Field LNG output to 142 million tpy by 2030.
