Santos scores another success at Windorah
Australia BRISBANE, November 4, 2015 – The latest well in Australian independent Santos’ Windorah near-field exploration campaign has hit gas, joint-venture partner Beach Energy said in a monthly drilling report released on Wednesday.
The Cougar East-1 well, located on exploration permit ATP 1189 in Queensland, was drilled around 110 kilometres north-northeast of the Ballera gas processing plant. Cougar East-1 is the third well in Santos’ five-well drilling programme, each of which have so far yielded a discovery. Australian independent Beach Energy did not reveal how much gas had been encountered, only that it exceeded pre-drill estimates.
The project partners plan to connect the near-field discoveries to the existing Coonaberry gathering system through wellhead connections in the Whanto, Mt. Howitt and Toby fields, as part of the broader 2015 Windorah-Marama development project. Pipelines associated with the project were completed during the third quarter of 2015.
Operator Santos holds a 60.06-percent stake in the Windorah near-field project, alongside Beach Energy (23.2 percent) and Australian integrated energy company Origin Energy (16.74 percent).
