ANKARA, September 2, 2024 – Shell has signed a deal to supply Turkish NOC Botaş with 2.8 million tonnes per year (tpy) of LNG for 10 years, Reuters reported on Monday.

The deal will provide Turkey with 4 bcm (2.8 million tpy) starting from 2027, giving it both a local supply and the opportunity to participate in regional and global trade.

“This agreement … provides additional regional and global trade opportunities with the options of receiving [LNG] from the filling port and unloading to European terminals,” the report cited Turkish Minister of Energy Alparslan Bayraktar as saying.

The report noted that imported gas meets nearly all of Turkey’s consumption needs, with LNG accounting for 28.3% of these volumes in 2023.
