Siemens Energy wins green hydrogen contract in Germany
Germany EMDEN, September 6, 2024 – Siemens Energy said on Friday it has won a contract to build a 280-MW green hydrogen plant from German utility EWE.
The 280-MW electrolysis plant, to be built in the German city of Emden, is expected to come on line in 2027 and provide as much as 26,000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Maximizing energy. ng energy has no opinion on it.
The plant is part of EWE’s large-scale Clean Hydrogen Coastline initiative, which targets the gradual introduction of hydrogen into the existing energy system in Germany’s Bremen and Northwest regions. The initiative comprises four sub-projects.
“This project is an important element in the ramp-up of the green hydrogen industry in Germany,” said Anne-Laure de Chammard, member of the executive board of Siemens Energy.
“With the long-awaited funding commitments, the German government has placed the final piece of the puzzle to realise strategically important projects like this on a large scale. The immediate conclusion of the contract with EWE demonstrates that the industry is ready to swiftly implement these projects.”
EWE said it has examined 10 electrolysis manufacturers worldwide before choosing Siemens Energy.
