TotalEnergies delivers first cargo of 100% biofuel bunker
Singapore SINGAPORE, August 13, 2024 – TotalEnergies Marine Fuels delivered its first cargo of 100% biofuel bunker on August 5, 2024, in Singapore, TotalEnergies announced on Monday.
The company used an IMO Type II chemical bunker tanker to transfer 700 tonnes of 100% Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester (UCOME) biofuel to the Glovis Cosmos, a car carrier vessel owned by Seoul-based logistics company Hyundai Glovis.
The biodiesel supplied is a second-generation, waste-based fuel sourced in Southeast Asia that is certified under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system. According to TotalEnergies, it has the potential to cut GHG emissions by between 80-90% over the full cycle from production to consumption.
“I am very pleased to see that our first 100% biofuel bunker was delivered safely and smoothly. We will continue to innovate and find sustainable low-carbon solutions for the shipping industry, which is navigating fast-changing market and regulatory conditions,” said Louise Tricoire, senior vice-president of aviation and marine fuels at TotalEnergies.
TotalEnergies Marine Fuels’s previous biofuel bunkering operations delivered very low sulfur fuel oil blended with up to 30% of UCOME-based biofuel. This is the first time that the entire quantity supplied was made up of biofuel.
