TotalEnergies launches tender for offshore rig in Namibia
WINDHOEK, October 25, 2023 – TotalEnergies has launched a bid process for a five-year drilling contract worth more than USD 800 million for the offshore Venus project in Namibia, Upstream Online reported on Tuesday.
The contract for the offshore drilling rig is expected to begin in November 2024.
According to Upstream’s sources, the French energy giant intends to choose a contractor by the end of 2023.
The Venus field is located on Block 2913B in water depths of around 3,000 metres.
TotalEnergies operates the concession with a 20% stake alongside partners QatarEnergy, Impact Oil and Gas and National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia.
In February 2022, the Venus 1-X well was drilled by the Maersk Voyager drillship and encountered around 84 metres of light gas in a lower Cretaceous reservoir.
Financial estimate of the contract is based on average day rates for rigs.
