PORT OF SPAIN, August 6, 2024 – Trinidad’s Ministry of Works and Transport and Airport Authority have commissioned the country’s first ground-mounted, commercial-scale solar park, local media reported last week.

A report in the Loop news portal said the country plans more similar projects.

Trinidadian Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Stuart Young hailed the development in a post on Facebook after delivering an address “setting out how Trinidad and Tobago will strike the balance between producing our oil and gas for the benefit of citizens whilst reducing emissions and utilising more renewable energy. ”

The country’s works minister, Senator Sinanan, also commented on the news, saying “It is one of many renewable energy initiatives that the Airport Authority has implemented.”

“The Authority also intends to expand the capacity of the existing park and utilise rooftop installations at key areas on the Airport’s estate. The Authority has a vision to develop green airports by contributing to reducing the carbon footprint in the aviation industry.”
