Dangote Refinery offloads petrol to NNPC

LAGOS, September 16, 2024 – In a landmark moment, NNPC loaded 100 trucks with petrol from the Dangote Refinery on September 15, Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s chief corporate communications officer, reported on Sunday.

The delivery marks the first time in 28 years that petrol refined in Nigeria will be distributed to the country’s filling stations. The news follows the refinery’s announcement that it had begun processing petrol on September 2. The sole buyer of its petrol will be NNPC, whereas the refinery’s diesel will be sold to various marketers.

The Nigerian regulatory authority also stated that it would cease importing petroleum products by October if prices are competitive, as well as supply the Dangote Refinery with 385,000 bpd of crude oil beginning October 1. The Dangote Refinery’s total capacity is 650,000 bpd.

Dangote’s petrol production is expected to stabilise Nigeria’s fuel supply, which has experienced shortages, while also helping to stabilise the naira by eliminating petroleum product imports.
