Ghana's game changer

Indigenous conglomerate Springfield Group made history in 2019 by becoming the first independent Ghanaian – and African – energy company to drill in deepwater, reaching depths of 4,000 metres. Springfield also succeeded in making a major oil discovery in November 2019 in West Cape Three Points Block 2 (WCTP2), which positioned the company to begin considering regional and even global ambitions.

  • Partnerships: Springfield has formed strategic partnerships with major international companies such as BP, Chevron, Glencore, Total, Trafigura and Vitol.
  • Subsea JV: Springfield Group entered into a joint venture agreement with the Norway-based subsea equipment provider Aker Solutions in 2015. The venture operates as Aker Solutions Ghana.
  • WCTP2: The company has a 82% stake in existing reserves and 84% of new discoveries at the block.

Springfield is active across the oil and gas value chain. Besides operating WCTP2, it provides oilfield services such as logistics, subsea equipment, oil rigs, marine construction equipment and maintenance. The company also sells petroleum products.
