ADNOC joins ExxonMobil on mega-scale hydrogen project
USA BAYTOWN, September 4, 2024 – Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC will take a 35% equity stake in ExxonMobil‘s low-carbon hydrogen project in Baytown, Texas, the companies announced on Wednesday.
The facility, slated to be the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen complex, will convert US-produced natural gas into hydrogen. Per ExxonMobil, the product will be “virtually carbon-free,” with around 98% of CO2 removed.
A signing ceremony for the partnership was held on Wednesday, witnessed by Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
ExxonMobil says it aims to grow a low-carbon hydrogen market along the US Gulf Coast to help industrial customers achieve their decarbonisation goals.
“This is a world-scale project in a new global energy value chain,” ExxonMobil chairman and CEO Darren Woods said.
“Bringing on the right partners is key to accelerating market development, and we’re pleased to add ADNOC’s proven experience and global market insights to our Baytown facility.
