Baker Hughes wins pipe systems contracts in Brazil

RIO DE JANEIRO, October 28, 2024 – Petrobras has awarded Baker Hughes contracts to provide 77 kilometres of flexible pipe systems to be deployed in Brazil’s pre-salt fields, the US company announced on Monday.

The deal was won in an open tender, and the contracts will also involve the provision of associated services. Their value was not specified.

The multi-year project includes risers and flowlines for hydrocarbons production and associated gas and water injection with support for equipment storage, maintenance and installation. Delivery is scheduled to begin in mid-2026, and the equipment will be utilised across Petrobras’s Búzios, Libra, Berbigão, Sururu and Sépia fields.

These systems will also address the critical issue of stress-induced corrosion cracking from CO2 (SCC-CO2), which can affect flexible pipes in pre-salt fields with high concentrations of the gas, Baker Hughes said.

Petrobras and Baker Hughes have a longstanding partnership. In June, the US player was awarded an order for workover and plug abandonment services in pre-salt and post-salt fields offshore Brazil.

Earlier in the year, the energy technology giant announced a “major” multi-year well construction services contract with Petrobras at the Buzios oilfield.
