LIBREVILLE, May 21, 2024 – BW Energy has made a substantial oil discovery in the DHIBM-7P pilot well of the Hibiscus field offshore Gabon, the company announced on Monday.

Hibiscus is one of the six discovered oilfields in the Dussafu Marine licence, 73.5% owned by BW Energy.

DHIBM-7P was drilled to appraise the northern flank of the Hibiscus field from the MaBoMo production platform to a total depth of 3,941 metres, and BW Energy’s evaluations have confirmed approximately 24 metres of pay in an overall hydrocarbon column of 37 metres.

“This is yet another confirmation of the significant potential of the Dussafu licence, which BW Energy is rapidly unlocking through low-cost and low-risk development activity,” said Carl K. Arnet, CEO of BW Energy.

Following the discovery, BW Energy will place production well DHBSM-2H in the northern flank of the Hibiscus South field, which was recently successfully appraised. The company plans to complete pilot well DHIBM-7P and proceed towards production in 2024.
