TotalEnergies launches Kaminho project in Angola
LUANDA, May 21, 2024 – TotalEnergies announced on Tuesday it has made a FID on the Kaminho deepwater project in Angola.
The company, together with block Petronas and Sonangol, will begin development of the Cameia and Golfinho fields, located 100 kilometres off the coast of Angola.
Kaminho is the first large deepwater development in the Kwanza basin and comprises the conversion of a VLCC to a FPSO which will be connected to a subsea production network. The FPSO is fully electric and is designed to minimise emissions and eliminate routine flaring. Associated gas produced during operation will be fully reinjected into the reservoirs.
Production is expected to commence in 2028, with a plateau of 70,000 bopd.
Saipem has been awarded contracts for USD 3.7 billion for EPC work related to the Kaminho FPSO and the development of the Cameia and Golfinho oilfields.
“This project, which leverages innovation to fit with our investment criteria – breakeven under USD 30 per barrel and carbon intensity of 16 kilogrammes of CO2e per boe – will become our seventh FPSO in the country and the first-ever development in the Kwanza basin,” said Patrick Pouyanné, chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.
TotalEnergies E&P Angola Block 20 operates Block 20/11 with a 40% interest, alongside Petronas Angola E&P (40%) and Sonangol Pesquisa & Produção (20%).
