Chevron submits development plans for Cyprus play

Cyprus

NICOSIA, May 31, 2023 – Chevron and its partners have submitted a plan to the government to develop the offshore Aphrodite field in Cyprus, Reuters reported on Wednesday.

The development will tie back to an existing processing and production facility in Egypt.

The Aphrodite field is located on Block 12, 160 kilometres from Limassol and 30 kilometres northwest of the prolific Leviathan field.

The field was discovered in 2011 and is expected to hold gas resources of 124 bcm (4.38 tcf).

Chevron operates the project with a 35% stake alongside partners Shell with a 35% stake and NewMed Energy with a 30% stake.

The US energy giant also operates the offshore Leviathan field in Israel that currently produces around 12 bcm (424 bcf) of gas per year and supplies Israel, Egypt and Jordan.
