China starts up world’s largest solar plant

URUMQI, June 7, 2024 – State-owned China Green Development Group (CGDG) has brought the USD 2.13-billion, 3.5-GW Midong solar project – the world’s largest – on line, PV Magazine reported on Thursday.

CGDG subsidiary China Green Electricity Investment of Tianjin launched operations at the project.

 

Power Construction Corporation of China reported that the project had been successfully connected to the grid. The company carried out construction on the massive solar installation alongside China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp.

The installation is located in Urumqi in the northwestern region of Xinjiang. It comprises 5.26 million 650-w monocrystalline bifacial double-glass PV panels.
