Liberia launches licensing round for 29 offshore blocks
Liberia MONROVIA, August 22, 2024 – Liberia has launched a direct negotiation licensing round for 29 offshore blocks, government authorities and partner TGS announced on Thursday.
Geophysical giant TGS is providing an extensive portfolio of multi-client subsurface data for the available blocks, including more than 24,000 kilometers of 2D-seismic data and more than 26,000 square kilometers of 3D-seismic data.
Negotiations for the blocks – located in the Liberia and Harper basins – will take place with the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Bokai Sr. was cited in the TGS press release as emphasising the country’s commitment to creating a stable and favourable investment environment.
For his part, TGS’s executive vice-president of multi-client David Hajovsky highlighted the “longstanding history of supporting Liberia’s exploration initiatives with high-quality seismic data and insights.”
“The availability of this extensive dataset, enhanced by the latest reprocessing technologies, offers a unique opportunity for the industry to further explore the potential within these under-explored basins,” he said. “We are excited to continue our partnership with Liberia and contribute to the successful development of its offshore resources.”
