McDermott lands prized EPCI contract in Qatar

DOHA, July 13, 2023 – McDermott International has signed a contract with NOC Qatargas to provide EPCI works on the North Field expansion project, the US engineering giant announced on Wednesday.

The scope of the works includes installation of 190 kilometres of subsea pipelines, 17 kilometres of subsea composite cables, 186 kilometres of fiber optic cables, 10 kilometres of onshore pipelines and compression complexes at seven locations to sustain gas supply to existing LNG facilities.

The cost of the contract is between USD 750 million and USD 1.5 billion.

The award falls after a slew of deals between Qatargas and McDermott International in 2022 for the North Field expansion project, including for EPCI and FEED works.

Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al Kaabi recently said the country is on the path to take on 40% of global LNG output by 2029.

The North Field expansion project aims to produce 48 million tonnes per year of LNG by 2027.
