NIPCO, NNPC inaugurate gas supply project at Lekki Free Zone
LAGOS, August 29, 2024 – NIPCO Gas and NNPC Gas Marketing (NGML) officially inaugurated a gas supply project in the Lekki Free Zone, the parties announced in a ceremony on Wednesday.
The project consists of a gas pipeline with a capacity of more than 2.83-mcm (100-mcf) per day that will supply gas to the Lekki Free Zone 60 kilometres east of Lagos. Part of this supply will be used to power the 24-MW Lekki power plant. The project comes as the result of a gas infrastructure and development agreement signed by the parties in November 2022.
Managing director of NIPCO Gas, Nagendra Verma, stated “NIPCO Gas believes that the collaboration between NGML and NIPCO Gas will attract industries to set up their facilities, as Lekki Free Zone has many advantages, like proximity to the seaport, export promotion zone advantages and improving road connectivity.”
The project represents a milestone in the use of Nigeria’s natural gas resources for the country’s economic development.
