Petrobras confirms new gas discovery offshore Colombia

BOGOTA, March 18, 2026 – Petrobras has confirmed a new gas discovery in Colombia’s deepwater offshore, strengthening the country’s gas potential and regional energy security, the company said on Wednesday.

The discovery was made at the Copoazu-1 well in the GUA-OFF-0 block, around 36 kilometres offshore in water depths of 964 metres, near earlier finds Sirius-1 and Sirius-2. Drilling began in November and identified gas-bearing intervals through logging and fluid sampling, with further laboratory analysis planned to assess volumes.

Petrobras operates the block through its subsidiary Petrobras International Braspetro B.V. – Sucursal Colômbia with a 44.44% stake, alongside partner Ecopetrol with 55.56%. The company said the discovery reinforces its long-term strategy to replenish hydrocarbons reserves through new exploration frontiers and partnerships.

Petrobras is a Brazil-based integrated energy company active across upstream, midstream and downstream segments, with international operations in the Americas, Africa and Asia. In Colombia, it focuses on offshore exploration in deepwater areas, working with local partners to expand gas supply and support energy security.
